Model R®
Pre-engineered Biological Wastewater Treatment System

A History of Superior Treatment

The Model R Treatment System was first developed by the engineers at Smith & Loveless more than 40 years ago. Since its introduction, the Model R has been improved so that it is the most cost-effective, pre-engineered, yet custom-designed, aerobic system on the market today. There are three reasons why.

First, the circular clarifier and other treatment zones are located within the circumference of the outer annular tank, which greatly reduces the footprint of the system. This helps to reduce both capital investment and installation costs. Second, the various treatment zones are efficiently concentrated together, allowing for easy integration with other processes or treatment needs. This design allows the Model R to process virtually unlimited flows and loadings. Finally, the concentric tank design reduces complexity and eliminates external pumps and interconnecting piping associated with separate tanks and basins. From design and engineering to a total turnkey field installation, Smith & Loveless' expertise comes with every Model R, every step of the way.

The Three Model R Systems

Model R System: The standard design for sanitary wastewater treatment from cities and industries.
Model R NUTRIGEST® System: Municipal or Industrial sanitary wastewater treatment with nutrient control.
Model R OXIGEST® System: Industrial or other wastewater treatment with elevated influent loadings that may also require extra high levels of treatment.

Design Flexibility

The Model R Treatment System's design flexibility offers many configurations to treat a variety of municipal and industrial applications. Each pre-engineered Model R System is custom-built. Yet, it can be easily designed for inclusion of a variety of process variations, including grit removal, flow equalization, nitrification, denitrification, re-aeration, chlorination, dechlorination, sludge storage, or other specialized treatment. Systems can also be designed for nutrient removal, water reuse and direct or indirect discharge. The pre-engineered Model R System's flexibility is virtually unlimited. Here are a few process variations of the Model R System.

Model R Advantages

Flexible application: Designed for both industrial and municipal applications.

Adaptable for large capacities: Treats wastewater flows from 0.1 MGD (380 m3/day) to an equivalent of 50,000 people or 5 MGD (18,925 m3/day) in a single unit.

Adaptable for high strength waste: Treats flows with high BOD. WET can size systems for virtually any wastewater load and strength.

Flexible clarifier design: Both half-bridge and full-bridge designs available.

Ease of shipping: Special shipment design allows for low-cost cross country or ocean transport and fast job-site erection and installation.

Start-Ups: All Model R pre-engineered systems come with start-up by a WET Field Service Engineer.

Design/Build Solutions: We offer erection and other installation services for all field-erected plants.
